E@sely Skills
Support teams and foster European research. From local to European excellence.
Facilitate access to European research funding for the research community of Lyon Saint-Étienne Engineering Alliance
Lyon Saint-Étienne Engineering Alliance in partnership with Jean Monnet University, the CNRS, INSAVALOR and Centrale Innovation, launched E@sely Skills project that has a two fold ambition:
- increase participation and success of local institutions in European funding programmes,
- establish Lyon and Saint-Étienne as an international engineering hub leading major transitions: ecological, economic, and digital.
Project E@sely Skills is supported by the public grant ANR-22-ASDESR-0016 operated by the National Research Agency (ANR) for the programme France 2030.

Research laboratories promotion
Being visible and being present is an important part of our work. We interact with diverse actors involved in research at both national and international levels: discussions with the French Ministry of Research and
Higher Education, exchanges with European networks focused on collaborative projects, participation in brokerage events, exhibitions, etc.
In coordination with our research labs, we identify strategic topics to be brought to the attention of the European Commission and included in future programmes and calls. Moreover, we participate in National Thematic Groups organised by the French Ministry of Research and Higher Education.
A team dedicated to European projects in coordination
Our team assists scientists in all phases of preparing their projects: from call monitoring to launching the project post-award.
We help you understand the Horizon Europe programme, choose the right call and interpret its specific requirements. Then we help you find partners and manage communication within your consortium (meetings, negotiations, planning, etc.).
Writing a high-quality proposal is a multi-stage process that we will go through with you: ideation and project concept, administrative forms and budgeting, preparing the draft and reviews, submission and follow-up on the European Funding and Tenders portal.
Scientific excellence funded by the European Research Council (ERC)
Taking your research idea from an inkling to a fully developed breakthrough project requires time and patience. We guide you through the process and help you see your project from different angles.
You will be able to clarify the scientific orientation and narrative structure of your proposal, identify your blind spots and anticipate all possible questions from the reviewers.
Specific preparation for interviews is part of our arsenal, including help in structuring your presentation and highlighting the key elements of the project. We train you to explain your research clearly and briefly so that anyone can understand it.
Support for international researchers
To facilitate research mobility to Lyon or Saint-Étienne, we propose a full range of personalised support. It covers both the practical aspects of settling in (visas, accommodation, social protection, childcare, etc.) and the aspects linked to social and cultural integration (themed meetings, cultural visits and social events).
This offer is continually developed and updated in collaboration with partner institutions, in particular the institutions members of Lyon Saint-Étienne Engineering Alliance, research laboratories and administrative services. The aim is to guarantee researchers’ smooth integration in the French research ecosystem.
Collaborative dynamics for European research
Bridging local expertise and European aspiration, E@sely Skills provides researchers with an opportunity to run scientific projects of the highest calibre. This initiative is part of Lyon Saint-Étienne Engineering Alliance’s strategy to put Lyon and Saint-Étienne on the map of European excellence.
